Birds and wildlife watching in Strathpeffer, Ross-shire

Dingwall and Strathpeffer's native animal population is extremely unique to the area. Here you have the chance to spot grouse, golden eagles, red deer and roe deer in the hills. If you are searching for sealife, try seal spotting in the Moray or Cromarty Firth, both of which have a thriving dolphin population, or take a trip on the Highland's only glass bottomed boat to spot underwater creatures. In this birdwatcher's paradise, you can spot many species of bird including wigeons, pintails, dunlins, knot and black-tailed godwits, skylarks, greenfinches and bramblings. A short walk on the south shores of the Cromarty Firth at Urquhart provide a good outlook for these species. At Tollie you have a chance of spotting red kites and buzzards. Loch Kinellan and the smaller loch just outside Strathpeffer will allow you to spot goldeneyes, mute swans, little grebes and long-tailed tits.
