Crerar Hotels Trust Flies High with £10,000 for Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance.
Crerar Hotels Trust has thrown its support behind Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA). A £10,000 donation was made to the charity which will help keep the helicopter airborne for its vital life-saving work throughout Scotland. To date, the charity has responded to over 1,100 emergency calls – 420 in 2015 alone.
Launched in 2013, Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance receives no statutory funding and the service is funded solely by donations from private individuals, companies and community trusts. On receipt of the donation from Crerar Hotels Trust, David Craig, Chief Executive of Scottish Charity Air Ambulance said support of this kind was “vital” to sustain the service for everyone.
“We are extremely grateful to Crerar Hotels Trust for their generous donation,” he said. “Without support of this kind SCAA simply would not be available for the people of Scotland. The charity is helping to save and improve lives every day and in every corner of the country and it is only through generosity like this that we can continue to provide this airborne lifeline.”
Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance was launched in 2013 to assist the Scottish Air Ambulance Service to deliver front-line care to time-critical emergencies across Scotland. The charity provides a fully equipped medical helicopter that can be deployed from its central base at Perth Airport to incidents across the length and breadth of Scotland.
The charity works closely with the Scottish Ambulance Service and is tasked through the emergency 999 system.
The funding from Crerar Hotels Trust will help sustain the upgraded EC135 T2i helicopter which replaced the charity’s retired HEMS Bolkow. The upgrade to a more powerful, faster helicopter last autumn has increased the charity’s operational capability. The number of hours flown in the first quarter of 2016 has increased from 43hrs in 2015 to 77hrs in 2016 – an increase of 80%.
