Crerar Hotels Trust bookmarks another donation with £10,000 for Scottish Book Trust

Crerar Hotels Trust has thrown its support behind Scottish Book Trust. A £10,000 donation was made to the scheme which will fund their Shared Reading Programme, devised to encourage more reluctant readers in local authority schools.

Scottish Book Trust promotes literature in Scotland, developing innovative projects to encourage adults and children to read, write and to be inspired by books. Children who have benefited from the scheme got together in May and Crerar Hotels were invited along.

The Shared Reading Programme has already significantly helped less able readers gain confidence, increase self-esteem and improve skills, plus encourage the development of strong friendships between older and younger children. The support of the Crerar Hotels Trust will help plan for the programme’s growth and secure its future.

“Shared Reading is an invaluable project that benefits hundreds of school children every year by building confidence and enthusiasm for reading.  The donation from Crerar Hotels Trust will help Scottish Book Trust to reach pupils in both economically deprived and hard to reach areas and will enable us to support teachers and librarians throughout the project by gifting sets of books and organising drama sessions for pupils. By encouraging children to master texts and share them with their younger classmates we set them off on their journey to becoming life-long readers.” – Jasmine Fassl, Head of Scottish Book Trust’s Schools Programme.
