Elsie Normington Foundation
The Elsie Normington Foundation (ENF) was established in 2013 with the aim of supporting children and young adults with learning difficulties across the Highlands of Scotland. Having fully established the need in this area through extensive consultation and data gathering with key stakeholders, as well as ensuring that services to be provided are in line with local and national strategies, ENF worked in collaboration with the Highland Council who agreed and subsequently purchased land on which a purpose built Haven Centre will be established.
The charity supports the needs of disabled children and young people, their families and carers in the Highlands. The funding is for a Haven Centre and supported housing, incorporating a specialist play centre, a community coffee shop and three purpose built flats for respite care.
Crerar Hotel Trust’s donation will assist with the development costs in building the Haven Centre and supported housing. The centre will incorporate a specialist play centre, a community coffee shop and three purpose built flats for respite care. The Centre, when established, will meet a number of needs by offering:
- A choice to parents of how they care for and support their children
- Much needed support to carers in their sometimes challenging role
- Supported employment and volunteering opportunities for young adults with learning difficulties
- Opportunities to communicate and network with each other for support
On receipt of the support, Elsie Normington said “We are immensely grateful to the Crerar Hotels Trust for this donation as it will enable us to move the project forward towards our ultimate vision.”
