Wild Things

Crerar Hotels Trust has donated £6,000 to Wild Things ‘environmental education in action’ to help them provide inspiring and innovative outdoor learning courses for children in communities around the Crerar Hotels in Nairn, Elgin and Grantown-on-Spey.

Wild things is a Scottish charity based in Moray which seeks to overcome educational, social or economic disadvantages through contact with nature. They inspire children, young people and vulnerable adults to achieve their potential through exciting outdoor learning opportunities which connect them with their local natural world. Since being founded in 2003, they have developed a unique range of environmental education courses which enables participants to experience Scotland’s spectacular natural environment and take practical action to conserve it.

These high quality outdoor learning experiences help to improve the quality of life for around 1,500 children and young people per annum. The charity specifically seeks to benefit those affected by poverty, rural isolation, learning disabilities or other challenges.

Crerar Hotels Trust’s donation will be used to expand Wild Things successful work with schools by helping to fund a comprehensive and innovative “Learning through Nature” programme. This aims to improve the learning outcomes, health and personal development of disadvantaged children whilst empowering them and their communities to conserve their natural environment.

200 children will be introduced to the nature in their local communities and will:

  • Learn about natural sciences, sustainability, enterprise and other curriculum-based subjects through inspiring hands-on educational activities.
  • Learn enjoyable ways to improve their health through games and play.
  • Learn to care for their environment through rewarding conservation tasks.
