Hotel Group Supports Charity Looking to The Future
Crerar Trust has donated £3,200 to Calibre Audio Library support Calibre Audio Library in improving the quality of life for people who cannot enjoy printed books due to visual impairment, dyslexia or another disability. They provide a friendly, personalised audio book library service by post and on-line with a mission to end reading exclusion for print disabled people by publishing and lending more audio books.
Calibre Audio Library provides a nationwide, subscription-free postal and streaming audio book service for people unable to read print because of sight loss, dyslexia or physical disability. Calibre has over 8,500 fiction and non-fiction unabridged titles in its library available in 60 different categories including 1,500 books for children. The books are available on MP3 CDs, USB memory sticks or via streaming.
The books Calibre Audio Library provide can be borrowed by post on CDs or memory sticks, or via streaming from their website. They are constantly increasing the number of books accessible in audio by recording around 300 new titles each year, as well as acquiring copies of commercially-recorded books. They are the only UK charity offering this service without an annual subscription charge.
Last year almost 400,000 audio books were issued to over 18,000 people all over the UK, including 27,655 books borrowed by library members in Scotland.
On receipt of the donation, Liz Clarke, Calibre Audio Library Fundraising and Marketing Manager said: ‘We are delighted that Crerar Hotels Trust have decided to award us this money. Their generous support over the past three years has been invaluable in helping us to bring the pleasure of reading to so many print disabled people across Scotland. We know from the hundreds of letters we receive how grateful our members are for their audio books.’
