Castles in Ballater

Balmoral Castle is the exquisite Scottish summer home of Her Majesty the Queen. This castle is a wonderful example of Scots Baronial architecture and the building has been awarded a category A listing by Historic Scotland. The Royal Family fell in love with Deeside due to its favourable climate and purchased the property in 1848 from Lord Aberdeen. The young Queen Victoria found the house to be too small and so commissioned new buildings and a variety of improvements to the estate to be made. Queen Victoria herself lay the foundation stone for the new castle on the 28th September 1853 and the castle has stood strong ever since, with only minor renovations taking place. Truly one of the most interesting historical sights in the United Kingdom Balmoral Castle is a wonderful way to spend your day.
