Scotland's Year of Hollywood

Scotland's Year of Hollywood

2012 will see Scotland featuring on some of 2012 biggest Hollywood Blockbuster movies including Disney/Pixar Brave, Batman The Dark Knight Rises and the new 007 James Bond movie "Skyfall".

Hollywood A list stars have been out in force with Brad Pitt in Glasgow filming "World War Z" and running away from Zombies in the city centre while the ever glamorous Scarlett Johansson stopped traffic on the A82 near Glencoe as she filmed her upcoming movie “Under the Skin” and Oscar winner Halle Berry has also been in Glasgow filming the movie “Cloud Atlas” with Hugo Weaving.

The biggest movie for Scotland in 2012 will be Disney/Pixar new 3D animated blockbuster “Brave” which is sure to be the most popular family movie of the summer. Brave is the story of Princes Merida who is determined to make her own path in life and defies a custom that brings chaos to her Kingdom. Granted one wish Merida must use her bravery and archery skills to undo the beastly curse. Although the story is set in fantasy land of the Kingdom of DunBroch during the 10th century, Scotland provided the inspiration for the this film with the location managers for the film scouring the Scottish Highlands for the inspirational landscapes which have inspired this magical fantasy land of castle, epic battles and mystical legends.

This heart-warming tale is voiced by the glitterati of Scottish acting, Kelly MacDonald fresh from her EMMY awarding performances in HBO’s Broadwalk Empire, the big yin Billy Connolly, Robbie Coltrane, Kevin McKidd, and Craig Ferguson is just a few of the cast in the biggest movie in Scotland since Mel Gibson’s “Braveheart”.

Anticipation is building ahead of it's European Premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival on 30th June 2012. Have a look at the preview to "Brave" to the left.

Batman - "The Dark Knight Rises" released Friday 20th July 2012 (fourth You Tube video down on the left) is without doubt going to be one of the most anticipated movies of the summer. The Dark Night Rises is the last in the instalment from director Christopher Nolan and this Batman is going to be bigger, bolder and obviously better as part of it was filmed on location in Scotland.

The production team were spotted in Cairngorms National Park filming some sort of skydiving scenes, that can only be describe as jaw dropping and there was a report of a stunt man/skydiver from the film landing on the roof of a rather unsuspecting local. There was also talk of a Hercules C30 being landed on the A9, so this gives an idea of the scale of the movie that has been filmed in Scotland. The Dark Knight Rises is without a doubt going to be the action movies of the summer!!
