Wizzybug Loan Scheme Zooms Ahead

Crerar Hotels Trust helps Wizzybug Loan Scheme zoom ahead on two new Wizzybugs with £8,500 donation.

Crerar Trust has thrown its support behind Designability’s Wizzybug Loan Scheme.  A £8,500 donation was made to the scheme which will fund 2 Wizzybugs. Each Wizzybug is loaned out at least 3 times to 3 different children so the support will benefit at least 6 children in Scotland. As the Wizzybug Loan Scheme was publicised to families and therapists in Scotland at Kids Scotland yesterday (Thursday September 11), Crerar Hotels were invited along by Designability to make the special cheque presentation.

The Wizzybug is a fun powered wheelchair designed specifically for disabled children under the age of five and addresses the needs of children diagnosed with conditions that restrict independent mobility, including cerebral palsy, spinal muscular atrophy and muscular dystrophy. Even those as young as 18 months can operate its simple controls, allowing them to zip around with their peers, developing spatial awareness, social interaction and independence. It can be used indoors and out of doors in accessible areas such as level gardens, playgrounds and parks, enabling children to enjoy the experience of mobility with their ‘first wheels’

Chairman of the Crerar Trust, Paddy Crerar, said improving quality of life is the main priority for the Crerar Trust. “Mobility is key to a child’s learning and development and also enables them to grow up as independently as possible and experience more of the world. Above all we want to see these children having fun and the huge smiles we’ve seen on their faces show’s our donation is very worthwhile.’ Paddy said.

Deputy Director, Tony Husband said "We're enormously grateful that the Crerar Trust has very generously given us the funding for 2 Wizzybugs in our loan scheme. Their sponsored Wizzybugs will transform the lives of at least 6 children throughout Scotland and allow them to be independently mobile for the first time."
