St Vincent's Hospice - £2950
Comfort and care
Based in Renfrewshire, St Vincent's Hospice's team provide 24 hour care for people with life-limiting conditions. They offer pain and symptom management, rehabilitation, complimentary therapies and emotional support on a purpose-built eight bed ward, as well as in patients' homes.
The Crerar Trust's funding of £2950 was used to buy a brand new specialist "rise and recline" chair for the Hospice's in-patient unit. The chair enhances the quality of care and improves patients' wellbeing by providing physical support and aiding posture, breathing, circulation and digestion.
Patients have had a very positive response to the new chair. It's both comforting and relaxing, and makes it easier to take part in activities.
Debbie regularly attends day hospice and loves the new chair.
"The chair gives you a cuddle! It wraps around me and I feel well supported. It moves so easily, making it better for everyone. I don’t have to keep being lifted in and out of the chair which can be extremely painful, and I can still get to day care which I enjoy. Some chairs, I have to ask to be moved because I get a sore back or hips, but I spent all day in it yesterday and I haven’t been sore. It's such a comfortable chair!"
