CRERAR TRUST DRIVE SUPPORT TO CLOTHE EDINBURGH’S CHILDREN
Crerar Trust has donated £4,000 to ‘Kids Love Clothes’ – a Scottish based charity helping struggling families with young children in Edinburgh and the Lothians by providing much-needed, quality kids clothing in gift bags.
Kids Love Clothes work with professionals such as health visitors, midwives, social workers providing a much-needed, seasonally appropriate wardrobe’s worth of clothes for each child, in the form of a stylish gift bag. The support from Crerar Trust will specifically fund the cost of a year’s insurance and petrol for the van used to collect and deliver clothing. In 2015 more than 450 families received support.
Fiona Shapcott, founder of Kids Love Clothes said 'as an organisation run entirely by volunteers, we rely on the generosity of wonderful individuals and businesses who recognise the need for this service within our community. This valuable donation from the Crerar Trust will help ensure we are able to continue delivering the gift bags quickly to those professionals helping struggling young families across the Lothians for another year and beyond.'
The van has enabled expansion of the service out of central Edinburgh to throughout Edinburgh and the Lothians and this support will continue to support this expansion and reach more families. The van is used to pick up donations from individuals and large companies who hold collections for Kids Love Clothes. It allows transport of the larger items such as cots, Moses baskets and buggies. This is not possible without the van and now being able to deliver these items to families will make a huge difference to them and take away a big burden.
Clothes are donated from all over Edinburgh and the Lothians, by parents and carers who want to see the clothes they’ve loved dressing their growing children in to go to other kids who really need them.
All the clothes are laundered and ironed before being packed into smart bags and covered with tissue paper. No items of clothing are wasted – and anything they are unable to use is passed on to other organisations such as Mary’s Meals, The Raven Trust, 500 Miles and Glasgow Cares.
Kids Love Clothes addresses several concerns in the community:
- Children’s welfare
- Encouraging volunteering
- Keeping things local
Kids Love Clothes is one of one of more than 50 charities to receive monetary donations from the Crerar Hotels Trust in 2015 alone. Paddy Crerar, the Crerar Hotels Group Chief Executive and Trust Chairman, said: "Crerar Trust is absolutely delighted to support Kids Love Clothes, their tireless work makes a massive difference to countless families struggling with young children in Edinburgh.”
