“Afternoon Tea arrived in Scotland following the Duchess of Argyll’s experience at Woburn Abbey, whilst as a guest of the Duchess of Bedford. The Duchess of Bedford created ‘Afternoon Tea’ to ease the hunger she felt mid-afternoon, between lunch and dinner. Afternoon Tea is now enjoyed by the majority of the nation as a leisurely pursuit.”
