Dating back to the thirteenth century, this castle is the ancestral seat to Clan Maclean. Duart castle has a rich history that includes multiple sieges, including one from a Cromwellian army. Ultimately, the castle was surrendered to and demolished by historical rivals, Clan Campbell.

Upon changing hands a number of times, the castle has now been lovingly restored and is back in the hands of Clan McLean. Duart Castle now stands as a testament to the island and its proud inhabitants, visitors have the chance to explore the castle and its grounds and gain insight into the history of the area. Another feature is the fascinating clan exhibition, dedicated to the many Chiefs of Clan Maclean over the years. The castle remains an important cultural landmark and is the ideal location to spend the day learning the local history, admiring the architecture and beautiful grounds.
