Thainstone House, Inverurie receives 2 AA Rosettes

Once burnt to the ground by Jacobite’s then “burnt metaphorically” again in the 90`s and 00`s by investment starvation from of absentee ownership and management – Thainstone House rises from the ashes to prominence once again.

Crerar Hotel Group (CHG) acquired Thainstone House out of receivership in 2013. At that time it was dilapidated and loss making husk of former glory.

CHG developed and invested significant sums in fabric and people to deliver a very high quality AA 4star destination hotel which has now received a coveted and rarely given first time double merit AA two rosette status (leapfrogging a one star AA rosette) for food and hospitality.

The business is booming. Despite the Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire hotel market showing massive occupancy and rate loss, Thainstone is in growth and now ahead of its competitive set after 24 months into the market.  Thainstone chased no trade and made no attempt to “cash in” on the oil boom favouring a more recognisably Scottish pragmatism to business relationships – be fair and look after clients people in the good times and they look after you when the good times fade.

To achieve one AA rosette after this short length of opening would have been a significant achievement for any developing hotel business. Achieving two first time is a remarkable feat for any team and in particular for a newly formed kitchen brigade led by Paul Grant in his first role as a Head Chef.

A new rating of four AA stars has been awarded from the long-standing hotel guide that has been inspecting the standards of hotels across the UK for over 100 years two days after the appointment of Morag Stark, General Manager.

Thainstone House acquired by Crerar Hotel Group in 2013 has undergone a major renovation project placing it now at the very top of the Aberdeen hotel market.   The house dates back to the 18th century and has a rich history as both a grand private home and as a much-loved Aberdeenshire landmark.  This elegant hotel now invites guests into our welcoming lounges with roaring log fires, comfortable and stylish deluxe guestrooms, quality fine dining restaurant, large ballroom with room for a marquee, six individual meeting rooms, bar and grill serving up some of the best steaks in Aberdeenshire, and leisure club with small spa, all set within a large parkland setting.

Morag Stark, General Manager, commenced her appointment at the beginning of this week and has already made her stamp, by leading the team successfully through the rigorous AA inspection where Thainstone House was awarded 4 stars.   Morag comes from Macdonald Forest Hills, where she was general manager.

Paddy Crerar commented “I am proud of the whole team at Thainstone House for this achievement, only 15 months ago this hotel would have been un-gradable in terms of service.  To obtain this result, it makes all the hard work and investment bringing Thainstone up to this level worthwhile, and more importantly that our guests continue to return to experience what Thainstone has to offer”.
