Top tips for winter breaks:

MacNabs: a great spot just round the corner where you can pick up some waterproofs, wellies and equipment for fishing or shooting.

Balmoral Castle: guided winter tours are given of the castle (availability of this can be found here), and the estate grounds remain open all year for winter adventure.

Royal Lochnagar Distillery: a few miles from Ballater, visited by Prince Albert, this is the perfect place to learn more about malt whisky

Ballater Events: There are a number of events in the local village, from the Ballater Farmer's Market on the 4th Sunday of every month to the Ballater Winter Festival on Saturday 27th November.

Glenshee Skiing: when the snow arrives in Glenshee, the largest ski and snowboard area in Scotland, comes alive with a choice of 36 runs.

Walks: there are many walks in the area, some of which are through woodland. Put on your waterproofs and spot winter wildlife.

The Lounge: on stormy days, sit back and rest by the roaring fires with a good book and Afternoon Tea.
