“We got a very warm welcome at the Balmoral arms in Ballater. When we went to our room we thought it was a bit cold and straight away a male receptionist got us a plug-in oil filled radiator, we were always warm and toasty after this. The first treat was mulled wine and a piece of Stollen cake as we sat by the fire in the reception area. After a delicious, perfectly cooked five course taster meal we enjoyed an evening of Ceilidh dancing. Wonderful! We were privileged to be able to partake in the amazing country's traditional celebration, quite a few men were kitted out in gorgeous kilt outfits and true fun was had. It was all so much fun with the absence of overly drunk people to spoil it, just a feel good feeling all through the night. We finished the evening by joining in Auld Lang Syne, it went on later than this but this is when we left for our beds. We were also totally spoilt on New Years day by friendly, helpful and efficient staff. There was no shortage of food and good cheer. We cannot praise enough how helpful the staff were and the Manageress was really friendly and helpful, she was even removing snow from peoples cars before they left.”
