Royal Lochnagar Distillery

Royal Lochnagar Distillery is an award-winning establishment situated on the Abergeldie Estate on Royal Deeside, in the shadow of Lochnagar Mountain and beside Balmoral Castle, the Queen’s Scottish residence. This wonderful distillery is regarded by many as being one of the jewels in the Royal Deeside crown.

Locnhagar Walking

Visitors can learn about the production process of this traditional distillery, which retains much of the original charm of the 19th century building. Guided tours are available to explain the history of whisky distillation in the area, showing visitors the impressive mash tun, giant copper stills and the wooden casks which impart so much of bold flavour.

The distillery has a ‘Royal’ prefix, arising from a visit from Queen Victoria in the 19th century, during which she enjoyed a dram of single malt Lochnagar. This excellent visitor attraction presents the ideal opportunity to learn more about Scottish Highland whisky, which has a unique character and taste enjoyed by so many around the world.
