Top 3 Trails to Walk Your Dog in Glencoe
Exploring Glencoe with your dog is a real treat, but many pet owners might have questions before they bring their furry friends to new places.
Is there nearby Veterinary care for emergencies? Is the hotel truly dog-friendly, or dog-tolerant? And of course, where is the best place for dog walks?

With trails that range from gentle lochside strolls to more adventurous woodland climbs, experience short, easy loops to stretch your pup’s legs or a longer hike where you can both enjoy the sweeping Highland views. Each trail has its own character, some shaded and serene, others more open and rugged. Explore our curated list to keep your dog by your side on your next holiday adventure.
We have curated a list of three of our most recommended, dog-friendly walks in the Glencoe area.
Glencoe Lochan Trail
This is one of the best dog-friendly walks near The Glencoe Inn. The 1-mile loop of the Glencoe Lochan is a gentle, easy stroll, perfect for older dogs, puppies, or a quick leg stretch. The wide, level path makes it ideal if you’re walking more than one dog or if your pup is on a lead. The surrounding Douglas Firs and Scots pines provide shade and shelter, making it a comfortable walk in most weather. For energetic dogs, you can branch off onto the longer forest trails for more of an adventure. Just keep in mind that the area is popular with other walkers (and often other dogs), so a lead may be helpful if your dog isn’t recall-proof.
Signal Rock
Signal Rock trail is slightly more adventurous, with a steady climb up to the rocky viewpoint. Dogs will love the scents of the forest and the chance to explore among the pines and heather. The ground can be uneven in places, so it’s best suited to dogs (and owners) who are comfortable with a bit of uphill walking. Once you reach the top, there’s a rewarding view straight down the Glen in winter or a cool, shaded forest canopy in summer, perfect for a quick water break with your pup. Keep an eye out for wildlife along the way. With lots of wild critters in the area, some dogs may get overexcited, so having a lead handy is recommended.
West Highland Way
A fantastic option if you and your dog enjoy longer, scenic walks. Starting from Glencoe Mountain Resort, you can choose to head east or west, with both directions offering wide, well-marked trails on the West Highland Way. These routes are popular with hikers, so expect to meet plenty of fellow walkers (and likely other dogs). Because the trail stretches for many miles, you can choose a distance that suits you and your dog’s fitness, whether that’s a short stroll or a full day’s hike. Remember to bring water for both you and your pup, as parts of the trail are exposed with little shade. It’s also wise to keep your dog on a lead in livestock areas or when approaching other walkers.
Some things to note when walking your dog in these areas. If your dog likes to chase things, please keep them on the leash. You’re likely to see other dog walkers and friendly locals. Respect the areas and keep the trails clean and tidy. That means have some poop bags at the ready!
