One of Scotland’s most exciting young marketing brains says she is “gobsmacked” to be recognised among some of the country’s most talented hospitality newcomers.

Catriona Piper, group marketing executive at Crerar Hotels, has earned a coveted spot on this year’s ScotHot 50 Rising Stars list, which celebrates Scotland’s most exciting new talent in the food, drink, hospitality, retail and tourism industries.

The international business graduate from Glasgow Caledonian University was among a host of bright young stars honoured at the annual ScotHot trade show at the SEC in Glasgow last week (Wednesday 8 March), where she was named a ‘Hospitality Hero’ – an honour she said she is delighted to receive.

“I can’t quite believe it!” Catriona explained.

“To have been nominated in the first place was a real honour, but to be named as one of the top 50 most exciting newcomers in Scotland’s hospitality industry is just incredible. I’m absolutely gobsmacked!”

More than 200 nominations for the ScotHot Rising Star list were examined by an expert group of judges, who carefully selected the top 50. As well as Hospitality Heroes, the ‘hot list’ celebrates Champion Chefs, Tourism Trendsetters, as well as those Rising Up in Retail and Brilliant in Beverage.

Catriona continued: “The awards presentation was a brilliant opportunity to meet other professionals at the beginning of their hospitality career. It was inspiring to share a room

with so many like-minded people, who are passionate about their roles and want to showcase the best Scotland has to offer.

“Scotland is famed for being an incredible destination for tourists the world over, and I am so proud to represent Crerar Hotels on that international scale. Our four- and five-star hotels and inns are right at the heart of some of our country’s most stunning landscapes and beautiful sceneries and it’s a delight to be able to share that with everyone who visits us.”

Alison MacLeod, Marketing Director at Crerar Hotels said: “Watching Catriona develop in her role of group marketing executive has been a real pleasure. She brings bold ideas to the table, faces challenges head on and approaches every day with a smile.

“We’re delighted to see her hard work has been recognised and are excited to help her continue to develop her career at Crerar Hotels. She really does sum up what it means to be a ‘Hospitality Hero’.”
