Preparing to travel for holiday should be one of ease, low stress and excitement, but for those with restrictive dietary requirements, an added level of uncertainty may arise. Between allergens and growing concerns for cleaning eating along with animal welfare, it’s good to know that there will be places where you are traveling that will be able to accommodate whatever dietary requirements might be.

All of the hotels in the Crerar Hotels collection have kitchens and menus that can make modifications to a multitude of dietary requirements including allergies, dairy intolerances, religious diets and more. One of the most popular requests that come to our kitchens is for vegetarian or Vegan dishes.

Celebrating ‘Veganuary’, a viral non-profit organisation that encourages people worldwide to try vegan for January, we have put together a list of top eats for Veggie Foodies traveling to Crerar Hotels across the UK.

HOMEMADE SCOTCH ‘BANNOCK’ PANCAKES

Served with forest berry compote and local honey, bannock takes its name from the ‘bannock stane' (stone), a large, flat rounded piece of sandstone used as a cooking surface over a fire.

Hickory - Nairn

Dinner/Appetiser

Head north into the Scottish Highlands for a chance to unwind with stunning views across the Moray Firth, and indulge in a fantastic, well plated dinner to remember. Hickory at the Golf View Hotel & Spa is where fresh garden herbs and produce meet on the plate to create memorable dishes. Combining delicious flavours with seaside sights, you are sure to enjoy a fantastic dining escape.

HEIRLOOM TOMATO TARTARE

Not only is this fresh starter good for our veggie foodies, but also has the option to be made gluten-free as well. Savour the taste of heirloom tomatoes, shallots, capers, gherkins, tomato sorbet & croutes.

Dining Room - Grasmere

Dinner

Only a short walk to the quaint village of Grasmere, Daffodil Hotel & Spa sits with incredible views across the shores of the Lake District. Popular for lovers of literature and outdoorsmen alike, fueling your body in mind is important for any visit. The Dining Room offers vegetarian and vegan options for more exploratory palates, invoking flavours from farther afield.

MISO ROAST CAULIFLOWER

Miso-roasted cauliflower is caramelized and savory, offering deep umami richness in every bite. It's paired with crisp kale and finished with a bright spring onion and toasted sesame dressing for a fresh, nutty lift. Kale, toasted sesame & spring onion dressing.

WILD MUSHROOM RISOTTO

A creamy wild mushroom risotto infused with earthy truffle creates a luxurious, aromatic starter. Finished with vegetarian parmesan and peppery rocket, it’s rich, comforting, and elegantly balanced.

Sandemans - Pitlochry

Fine Dining

In the Scottish Highlands, it comes as no surprise that true fine dining options are sparse. What is even further and far between, is fine dining that can cater to a range of dietary requirements. Sandemans at Fonab Castle in Pitlochry is the exception to this, with a changing seasonal menu utilising local produce, and herbs sourced directly from the castle garden, the chef is able to curate bespoke dishes to fit any dietary requirements that you may have. Of course, this will need to be noted in advance to ensure the proper ingredients are available in the kitchen to craft vegetarian friendly dishes to replace other dishes.

As this menu is constantly changing, we can not provide you with the current options. If you have questions, please contact Fonab Castle directly at +44 1796 470140.

Green Lady - Inverurie

Dessert

For many, the best part of the meal is the last, sweet, course of the meal - dessert. At Thainstone House in Inverurie, The Green Lady restaurant has a sublime sweet and sour flavour to finish your dining experience.

PINEAPPLE TAPIOCA

Pineapple tapioca is a creamy, tropical dessert where chewy tapioca pearls are folded into a silky coconut base brightened with fresh lime. Sweet pineapple adds a vibrant, juicy contrast that makes each bite refreshing and light.

Please let your servers know about any dietary requirements before ordering to ensure and restrictions or allergens are noted to our kitchen.
