Exploring the Benefits of Hebridean Seaweed

From the lochs and coast of the Scottish Highlands to the rural Aberdeenshire countryside and the beachfront of Nairn,  Crerar Spa Hotels offer a luxurious range of places to relax, recover and unwind. While each location offers a bespoke and distinctive experience, harnessing the power of nature to enhance wellbeing is a cornerstone of the collection. This takes us to ishga

ishga (deriving from 'uisge', the Gaelic word for 'water') harvest four types of Hebridean seaweed by hand for use in the luxurious collection of organic skincare found in our spas. While sustainably sourced and natural ingredients are always appealing when it comes to beauty, you may be wondering, why seaweed?

The potent blend of vitamins, minerals and other bioactive compounds found in seaweed are known for the following benefits:

  • Hydration. Certain minerals found in seaweed, such as potassium, calcium, magnesium and iron, can help to nourish and hydrate dry skin, promoting a healthy and radiant complexion.
  • Protection. Seaweeds contain antioxidants such as vitamins A, C, and E, as well as beta-carotene. These antioxidants help protect the skin from oxidative stress caused by free radicals, environmental pollutants, and UV radiation.
  • Calming. Bioactive compounds, including various polysaccharides, peptides, and fatty acids, are considered anti-inflammatory. This can be particularly helpful for individuals with sensitive or irritated skin.
  • Collagen. Seaweed contain peptides that support collagen production in the skin. Collagen is a crucial protein that provides structure and elasticity, maintaining skin firmness and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
